1. Probably not, if you just do yoga and nothing else like excercise diet etc.

2. Sure, aerobics will help lose weight if done correctly with diet etc.

Ladybird yes you can lose the extra pounds by doing yoga, as long as you do it properly. There are different yoga postures and asanas to lose weight from different parts of the body as well. As you asking about losing extra fat around the thighs well the butterfly asanas is good for this.

I wouldn't say that yoga is a substitute for aerobics, as yoga involves breathing exercise and aerobics is cardiovascular exercise. You can lose weight by doing either but the two are different and it also depends on what your aim is, to stay fit, a healthy mind, lose weight etc.

i was really surprised how much yoga got my heart going. so there is definitely some aerobic benefit to yoga. however, if you don't feel like you're building much muscle, maybe you'd like to try pilates.

I agree with Harpreet that yoga is not a substitute for aerobics. Yoga and aerobics complements each other. Yoga affect most aspects of our physical body, especially our glandular systems. It also relaxes and tones up the muscles and nervous system, stimulates circulation, massages internal organ, calms and concentrates the mind. Aerobics activates our muscles and heart by making them work harder.

Both are necessary for balancing our body and mind.

Default Is yoga a substitute to aerobics

Yoga differ from aerobics. Yoga do breathing exercises and make your body more flexible while aerobics do cardio exercises which lengthen your stamina. Though both will help you lose weight if done the right way.
