Just started with some yoga a few weeks ago. Lower back has been painful since I started. Is it common to have such pain from the twists? If so, how long does it take to get used to the yoga? Thanks |

If you'd kindly say a bit more I'd be glad to give you feedback. However as it currently stands I can't determine what sort of practice you are doing, for how long, in what ways and in what style nor can I surmise whether you are 80 and feeble or 20 and active. |

Actually many of the people do yoga to relieve their back pain, but you say that you are having back pain. Since you have started yoga few weeks ago you need to start very slowly and have good training at first, abnormal movements can cause back pain and may have risk in it, so have good training classes for yoga & do it accordingly, your backache will subside. Concentrate on it.

I tried to have a yoga once. For me, it was really a great feeling to relieved stress. By the way, how often do you have a yoga? |

Did it happen after you did a twist pose (maybe matsyendrasana?). Anyway, in doing yoga, you shouldn't force yourself. It should be done gradually based on your capacity and flexibility. The trick is bend your body (it is is the bending forward pose, for instance) till the stage that you are still comfortable with, and push a bit more. But don't force yourself. |

Yoga is a stress removing activity. If you are having pains in you back, you may have done something wrong or maybe you pushed yourself too far. Yoga if done properly will relieve pains and stress.

It's obvious having pain in your muscles after having yoga. As you are a beginner so don't worry. It's because your body is not used to. You are doing something new with your body which your body is not used to. Your body will take some time to get used to of it. Remember start with light exercises. Initially do it 3-4 in a week. It may take a month that your body accept it. So don't worry. Remember do exercise in a right way or right posture.
