Default Roast Dinner

I enjoy having a roast dinner, and think its a meal which is healthy and also tastes good. Many people add their own cooking techniques and ways of preparing the vegetables.
A common roast meal consists of roasted chicken/beef/lamb, boiled/steamed vegetables which can include broccoli, cauliflower, peas, sweetcorn, carrots, baked potatoes and brussel sprouts along with gravy.

I sometimes find it nice to have a stuffing for the chicken, and adding a spicy touch to it.

I just made roast for dinner the other night. I take a huge piece of beef and marinate it the night before with meat marinate. I put the meat in the bottom of my slow cooker, top it with one can of beef broth. Then I cut up onions, potatoes and carrots. Put them on top of the meat. Added garlic, salt, pepper and another can of beef broth. Let it cook all day!

Served it with salad and fresh italian bread.

Are there any special tips you use for cooking lamb Harpreet? I have never done it, and I have heard that it can be rather tricky - I am not sure why. Is the meat fatty or lean?

Antk- that is exactly what I do too. Roast dinner to me is always beef roast. Chicken is chicken dinner. I make all kinds of dinners in the crock-pot or slow cooker.

I love eating beef roast with potatoes, carrots, onions and gravy. The next night with the left-over beef, we rip it in pieces and but it in BBQ sauce. BBQ beef sandwiches.

I love meals that you can make 2 or 3 out of 1.

I think the only problem with lamb is that it takes a good amount of time to cook. When my mum makes it she simply puts the usual salt and pepper seasoning on it and sticks it in the oven, occasionally brushing it with oil. When its half done she covers it in foil and puts it back in the oven. It takes well over an hour and half. But it also depends the size of lamb you are using. Lamb is both lean and fatty which is why it takes a lot of time to cook.

Lissy what Shama has said is true about the timing. Although there is nothing tricky about cooking lamb, its just the time it takes to cook.

I have only cooked lamb roast once and I would say it takes about an hour per kg of lamb to cook, when cooking at a temperature of 180c, this was the estimate i used and the lamb was cooked to perfection. Always check the lamb while cooking and keep turning it and like Shama said covering it in foil when half done is a good idea.
I would also like to know that are your asking about cooking lamb in the oven as you have asked in the roast dinner thread, or cooking lamb on the gas too?

Oh yes a roast dinner, something enjoyed by everyone I think, even my in laws love it, although they are very used to the traditional Pakistani food, but love having a roast dinner when its made. (simply add some spices to the meat, to give it a kick in flavour instead of being so bland)
