I have tried the dish shashlyk when I was in Europe, its pieces of beef, or sometimes pork or lamb, roasted on metal sticks, and it is delicious. If you think you don't like lamb, wait until you try this stuff. Absolutely wonderful. I hear the secret is in marinating the meat overnight before grilling it, and I'm not sure what exactly is used for marinade. If anyone knows, please share!!

I have tasted that dish when I was in Turkey - it is a middle eastern recipe actually but it is the spices and not the marinade that makes it taste the way it is. They sell the spices called ''kafta spice'' in the Middle Eastern stores.

| I hear that the dish originated in European Georgia, it is also popular in Armenia and Russia. I have found out what the marinade is: it is either wine or mayo. The meet is marinated overnight, then cooked on skewers over hot coals. I can't wait to do it!! |
