Default Cell phones and water

My daughter is almost 13- she hasn't seen her cell phone in a couple of days--- I told her it's her responsibility to keep track of it.

Well guess what?? I found it. On the bottom of the washer- with a load of whites. I let the whites soak all night in bleach and water. She is supposed to always check and empty her pockets. She left mascara in once and it ruined many clothes- Since then she has been great! Sure I should have looked too- but I didn't. I was in a hurry.

Needless to say, right now it's not working. Do you think it will work again? Might just need a new battery? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

One time, my cellphone fell in the water closet. I got it out at once and turned it off. I let it try for a few days. Voila! It's still working!!!

Try to leave it and let it dry for a few days. Although I doubt if it will still work because it was soaked overnight!

I cannot assure you that it will work, but however you try this.

Open the phone as much as you can and keep it for drying for overnight

In the morning look for the water and any deposits (whites) over it, if you have it then clean it.

check the battery for any inflammation, if there is any then dont use it, if it looks normal then ok

now you try to switch on it.

be-careful that it should not have any water or deposits on the main board.

If this doent work then have to get it repaired, but it usually doesnt cost much here in India if phone is worth 5000 Rs then repair would cost arount 300-400 Rs

If you have a table lamp at home, try this.

Insert a 200W bulb in the table lamp and switch it on. Place the opens cell phone, battery separated under it. Let it be for 3 hours. This may work but if the circuits are shorted then it will be no-go.

There is a chance that it will dry out and recover.

My son was 1/2 alseep and on his cell. He went to put it down and it landed right in a glass of apple juice. It was sticky, but after about 2 weeks of it drying out it did work again.

On the other hand, my husband walked into the hot tub with his cell in his pocket. It never worked again.

Well I'm sure the battery is fried. I took out my battery and put it in her phone and it turns on and works. The picture is fuzzy as it's wet looking!

I'm thinking we need a new phone. Boy she was so mad at herself-

Thanks for all the tips. Right now it's drying out in the car. With the windows up, it gets mighty hot in there!

My fiance used to be a Verizon cellphone technician. Generally a cellphone is beyond hope if it is submerged in water. Even taking your cellphone into the bathroom while you shower can destroy it because of the steam. If your carrier offers in-store repair you can try taking it to the technicians there. Phones have a water sensor that water will trigger, so it is unlikely the phone could be replaced under warranty, but if you have insurance on the phone you may be able to pay a deductible to have the phone replaced.

There are some phones that are very durable and water-resistant. I would suggest talking to a cell phone sales rep about a more practical option.

My mom remembered her (brand new) phone was in her pants that she put in the wash and took it out 5 minutes after starting the washer but it was hopeless. She was so upset with herself. Luckily I was able to fenangle a free replacement for her because I was close with store manager.

Good luck!

Oh gosh this is terrible, I hope she learns from her mistakes, cell phones are expensive, have to say something happened with mine and water and it didn't work for a week, I got a new one and one day I decided to see if it worked (thinking not) and it turned on and was working fine, I think once it's left and not pressed and left to dry thoroughly it may just work.

We just ended up buying 2 new phones. This time I took out the insurance on her phone. It's ok we had the phones for over our 2 year period anyway. We were ready for new phones... I was just waiting to see what was happening with my job in this bad economy first.

What a bummer! I've almost had my cell fall into the toilet before, but luckily it was held in my pocket just tight enough to not fall out. That would have upset me soooo bad!!
