My child is not concentrating in his studies and it’s his exam time. I fear that he would flunk in his exams..He barely starts studying when electricity plays a role of devil in disguise.. Some good suggestions would really help. |

Just unplug until he does his studies. Once my kids hit their teens, I told them that they are responsible for their studies and keeping their grades up. If they don't study, they have to seek the consequences. |

I agree with antkmom. Rather than waste your time and nerves on watching the kid and telling him over and over and over again that he needs to study, tell him exactly what will happen if he brings bad grades (no computer, no parties, no outings, for example), and stick to it.

Unfortunately reward and punishment seem to be the only thing a teenager understands. Kids differ as well. I have two teenagers in the house. They are both lazy but the younger one works when necessary and gets good marks. The older one is finishing school this year and I just told him if his marks are not above average, he can find a job next year. It seemed to wake him up a bit. A Dutch woman did research on the brain development of teenagers and I was quite stunned when I read some of this. I put an article on my website, in which I tried to summarise the info. If you want to read it, it is at Dyna-Edu |

Oh, gosh! We are in the same boat, anjali. I am at a loss on how to wean my son from his peers to concentrate first on his studies. I've tried persuasion, guidance and counselling, disciplinary action, everything! I hope he will mature soon enough.

I'm with Antk on this one. Once your child hits a certain age it's their responsibility to make sure their grades are where they should be. It is also their responsibility to make sure they study and do their homework. I help my daughter whenever she needs it or asks for it. If her grades are not where they should be, she loses items. TV, cellphone, hanging out with friends, sports. |

| That's a tough one. My little brother is 7 now and he's always had trouble to finish his homework and just didn't have very much motivation. Try finding something that he/she REALLY like to do or eat, and give them that as a reward after they do their work. Or, take away their fav toy, thing, friends.. something like that. You know your child the best, so you'll know, when you really think hard about it, what will work the best for them... Lol.. I talk like a mom, but I've just babysat a lot lol |
