Default My 14 yr old step son

I know this kid hates me. He will be 15 next Monday. He hates school, hates rules, says he hates his dad. He failed 7th grade twice. This year is his last chance. He is mouthy and rude and just plain doesn`t care about anything. I just don`t know what to do with him. I try talking to him and he will talk but not to his dad just me. Personally I think he has something wrong with him because of what his mom did while she was pregnant with him. My hubby has custody by the way. The schools and the doctor he was seeing will not do a complete pysch eval on him. Any suggestions?

Maybe you school consider seeing a private therapist if the school won't do the psych eval. It sounds like he may have some depression the way that he says he hates everything. I've been though times like that in my life and I said I hated everything because I was so miserable and depressed and hopeless. Does he ever say why he hates everything? Is there anything that he likes?

Why won't they do a psych eval on him?

Do you have any kind of homes for troubled teens in your area? I would tell him that if he doesn't straighten up, he will have a new address at this home.

Tough love is probably the only thing that will work with him.

The child needs attention. Since he is comfortable with you, you should listen to him. Talk to him as much as possible and make him feel that he is not a failure. Anyway, what seems to be his major problem? Does he have an issue with his father or mother?
