Default School sports

My daughter is all signed up for volleyball again this year. She has told me that she is going to work really hard on keeping her grades in the 90's this year.

We were told at the sports meeting that grades will be looked at every week instead of every 5 weeks for sports.

I think it's a super idea, it's making the kids more accountable for their grades.

Studying is more important that playing sports.

I think that's awesome that they're looking at grades weekly. I think that will really keep your daughter motivated and also you'll stay updated this way too. Honestly, the more I read your posts, I can tell you're a very good mom. I wish I had a mom like you growing up!!

I agree that the studying is more important; however, sports activities also help our kids keep fit, especially in the winter as they tend to go out less when it's cold. My daughter is signed up for basketball and skating. She is getting a little chunky so I think that this will help her shed the extra pounds she gained this past year.

Thanks for the compliments! I try to be a great mom. I have a great mom and I'm very close with her and I want my daughter to think I am too.

I think sports are great for kids too. I love that she is learning how to be a team player. She has played softball for 8 years (started whan she was 5). She also plays volleyball. She is 5 foot 9 but didn't like basketball at all.

You are right- it keeps kids active.... and that is a big Plus!

I wish my mom would have pushed me more to be more social and get into sports, or some kind of group. I mean, I was in band at once point and I got really good at the flute, but then I got bored and quit. LOL

I'm glad they have someone to motivate them. I think that's awesome

I love that my kids are involved in school sports. I think that this keeps them out of trouble too.
In our high school, the coaches do try to get around the grades, but many of the teachers won't budge~ which is good.

Kids learn alot of responsibilities when they are involved in school sports. They learn to juggle their schoolwork, practices and games. They also learn alot of respect for adults.

I agree 100% antk about the respect.

Do you know what irritates me the most about school sports? It's the parents that think their kids should play all the time and then put other kids down! I was sitting at my daughters 1st volleyball game and I heard a Grandma talk about her granddaughter. She was saying that she didn't play as much as she should. She should play more than the other kids because she is a better player. This was coming from a Grandma! I was like- shut up lady.... Of course I only said it in my head. Do you know what? Her daughter is just like that... and my daughters teammate (her granddaughter) is the same. Think they are better than everyone. Adults should know better!

I definitely agree with you. Can you imagine what else they might be saying at home? It is such a terrible example for kids!
