I personally think that Delhi is one of the best places to shop in India, whether its household items you want, makeup, clothes, books, technology products, jewellery, shoes, furniture or anything else. Delhi has a wide variety of shops, and you will find a lot of influence from countries like UK, USA and so on, which means you will get the latest, good and reliable products. Regarding clothes you can get the latest fashion products whether its traditional wear or western wear. You will also find a wide variety of artificial jewellery (also known as imitation jewellry) which is posh and elegant looking (most shops bring their jewelry from Mumbai, ans you will see that the jewellry at the shops are very similar to what you see worn in films or celebrities) You will also find a wide range of electrical items and many different technology items, which will be at reasonable prices. Although you will find a difference in some things, such as regarding dress material I find that Punjab has a better variety! Last edited by Admin; 12-03-2008 at 04:58 AM. |

I agree with you on this Harpreet, Delhi is defiantly the place to shop, there is just so much choice and variety! I remember on my last visit I went to Chandni Chowk in Delhi, and I was told that this is the hub for Indian clothes and that material and dresses get exported from there to the rest of India! Chandni Chowk had so many shops there it was like a mall just full of clothes shops, so there was a lot to choose from! From cheap everyday wear to exclusive party and wedding wear! |

Although I have to add to this that there are many places in Delhi, where you can get ripped off easily especially those who are from abroad! A common place where most foreigners go is Janpath (near India Gate), and its a place where you really have to watch out for prices, as you can get ripped off easily. The shops will first say a really high price, and you have to ask them to come down in price, and then more down, and then when you don't agree you start to walk off they start calling you and eventually agree to a suitable price. E.g when i went to buy a top from there the guy said its Rs400 (which it was not worth), I said its at least Rs100, he said Rs350, then i started walking off, until we finally came to a final amount of Rs150. Either learn how to shop and bargain right down to what you know the price of a product should really be, or just go to a fixed price shop, where you wont get ripped off! This is actually not the case just in Delhi but in most places in India! |
