Default Get your things, I'll get mine

What's worse than having to divide all belongings with someone you don't want to see ever again?

That's happened to me. We tried to be sensible, but that's tough after separating.
I still regret letting him get some things that I had paid for.

I can relate. I recently left my ex and we had sooo much stuff that basically I'd paid for. It was complicated and so I just left all behind. I was moving states away anyway, so it just wasn't worth keeping for me anyway. I mean, I took three suitcases with me.. and that was expensive enough..

Just make sure that you get the things that you really care about. There will always be times that you regret not getting something or not leaving something behind. Just take what you can and use the opportunity to make a fresh start for yourself.

I don't know how some men get the nerve to keep the things that the woman had paid for. I understand that stuff bought together, like a TV set, for example, can be difficult to decide on, and still some kind of an agreement can be reached. But if she paid for it?? Come on.

I went through the same thing with my last two relationships. But, I didn't really care what they took as when you live together with someone for a longtime, it no longer matters who purchased what. I am not materialistic and as long as the belongings are fairly divided in a friendly fashion, it's no problem. That's exactly my exs and I did and everyone was fine with the final outcome. Material can always be replaced after all...

I think the whole dividing things up sounds like a good and easy to do thing on paper, but when it comes to the actual action, it's difficult. How do you define what belongs to who? Sometimes it's very difficult to determine that.

Most people calculate the worth of their things and just divide it equally. That's probably how I would do it too.

If there is a legal division of things, then I would follow that. Are there some instances wherein men would give up their belongings for their ex partner? I hope my husband would do that if I we are in that situation.

How did you divide your things, Mimi? If you have bought it, then you should have get it from him. Anyway, maybe he needed it so it's good that you let him have it. I know you would find a better replacement.

We lived in his apartment, when I left I didn't take anything. I called him a couple of days later and asked him to pack my things so my friend could pick them up.
He packed whatever he thought was mine and kept what in his mind was his.
