According to the recent study, it is found that kids having TVs or Computers in their rooms sleep less. The study conducted by the University of Haifa reveals that children on a weekdays have an average bedtime of 11:04 PM and wake up time of 6:45 AM and on weekends, it is little later at 1: 45 PM and wake up at 11:30 AM. Middle school children watch TV for about 2.40 hours and use computer for 3.45 hours daily. On weekends, they watch half an hour more TV and use computer for four hours. And eating habits included only 10 percent of the children who never eat in front of the TV.

I had a tv with a super nintendo hooked up when I was in my teenage years. I would let my kids have the same type thing. I went through stages where I would play it alot and stages where I wouldn't play it often. Also, my mom used to play the games with me. I think that if the parents monitor the child's activity and even join them in it some, it is okay.

Neither my brother nor I was allowed to have a TV in our rooms. My mom knew that we wouldn't go to sleep, and it would be a distraction from doing homework. By the time I got my own computer, I was already in college.

My kids don't watch TV any longer - at least not when they are with me. I let them play on their computer sometimes during the week but on the weekend, they are free to stay on it as long as they want, provided they have finished all the school work.

I have to disagree with this study. My kids all have tv's in their rooms. The only time they are on is when they go to bed. They are on for about 1 hour and the kids are fast asleep. It is an easy way to get them to go to bed with out a fight. They are so tired by the end of the day, the tv show winds them down and they are out!

I think it really depends on the child, and how well their parent is at getting them to obey their rules. My mom always let me have a tv in my room, and i really didn't like it and would always have it off so I could sleep. I will admit though, it can distract you quite a bit and make you want to stay up for "one more show", which ends up turning into 3 hours later lol

TVs can be a distraction against sleep, and yet it can help you fall asleep when you have a bit of insomnia. You have some very good kids, antkmom, because I don't think that most kids would do what they were supposed to do unless there's nothing on TV.
