Default Reading to Children

You should read to your child. It doesn't matter if you are reading to them before bed or a little in the afternoon. My mom read to me when I was still in the womb, and her reading to me as a child made me love reading more. What kind of books did your mom read to you?

I don't actually recall my mom reading any books to me, though I'm sure she did. When I am pregnant/or a mom, I plan to read to my children. I hope they love it as much as I do!

My mom read all kinds of books to me like story books, and she even read to me from the Bible. Having her read to me made it easier for me to read. I wonder if that has anything to do with me not having any memories of trying to read?

Well, I'm sure at one point you had to try to learn to read, but it seems possible that because she read to you, you picked up on reading faster.

I know I did somehow, but I actually have no memory of the actual process. Maybe her reading to me was her way of teaching me? I know I certainly didn't learn in school.

I remember mom reading Mark Twain's books to me. She read all kinds of other books, too, and then I easily switched to reading on my own. I have loved books all my life.

Yes, I certainly plan to read to my daughter. I hope she likes fairy tales and adventure stories.

Even after they've gotten older, children should still be read to. Not a lot of my teachers read to me in school; we had headphones so we could listen to the story and read along with it. If you don't have any children of your own yet, you could volunteer at a library and read to the children there.
