Default No more kisses or hugs...

In front of the school that is. When I dropped off my 10 year old daughter at the school this morning, I reached over to give her a hug and a kiss but she pushed me away, stating that her friends were looking over and that she was too old to be hugged and kissed like a ''baby'' in front of them.
I was taken aback from her reaction and to be honest, very sad as well. But I respected her wishes and promised her that I would do all the hugging and kissing before we drove off to her school. She was satisfied with that.
I knew this was coming but I didn't think it would be this soon...I am still sitting here, thinking about it.

Have any of you been through this, did it make you upset as well? I am sure I'm not the only one, but I can't help feeling like I've officially been let down over little friends...sigh.

That's sad. My kids don't mind if I kiss and hug them in school. Don't be upset about that. I know your child didn't mean it. I really wonder, why are they bothered with what other people would say? Anyway, I suggest that you stay connected with your children. Talk and go out with them.

Aww! I don't have kids, so I've never dealt with this, but I can imagine how sad that is. My little brother is like a son to me and if he told me not to kiss and hug him in front of his friends, I would be very hurt.. I know it's bound to happen eventually though. My little sister (I basically raised her) is also starting to get more and more independent. Not too long ago we went to Wild Waves, and of course I was being completely oblivious and kept bugging her while she was with her guy friend.. she kept ditching me and it was such a sad feeling. It's like.. you feel like you're losing them for a moment, but then you realize that they're just doing what makes them happy and growing up. Still sad tho!

Oh, this is sad. I have not gone through this but I know in time I will also go through this. My son is just four years old, so I'm sure in a few years he would be like that also especially that he is a boy. It would be sad, but we can always do our hugs and kisses at home.
