Default Pickled cabbage

Have you ever tried pickled cabbage? It is not like sour kraut, it is more on the salty side, and you can also make it sweeter if you add more sugar in the process. My grandma used to make a huge jar that would last all winter. It is cabbage with grated carrots, and when you serve it you add some diced onion as well.

That sounds interesting. I can't even imagine what that would taste like. I love things that my grandma used to make. They make the food so special!!

I love eating pickles with loads of aromatic spices. I had a mixed vegetable pickle with cabbage, carrots & beetroot blended perfectly with many Indian spices like cardamom, clove, turmeric, fennel etc.

Yes, I have a recipe for pickled cabbage with beets, too! You use slices of beets, carrots, and lots of finely chopped cabbage. After adding the seasonings you let it sit in a jar for a few days, and the whole mix turns purple because of beet juice. It looks rather unusual on the table, always draws attention.
