Cool Vitamin C

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is a vitamin that belongs exclusively to the plant kingdom. As a class, animal foods are a poor source of this vitamin. Besides, man lacks the capacity to synthesise it unlike many animal species. Vitamin C carries out many vital functions in the body.

Vitamin C when paired with Zinc boosts our immune system and prevents us from being susceptible to respiratory tract infections and diarrhea.

I take a Vitamin C tablet every day. I think it helps keep me from getting the flu every year. I haven't been sick in years!

One thing you have to remember with Vitamin C is that the body needs plenty of iron too. Iron helps absorb the Vitamin C into your system. Without enough iron to do this, the Vitamin C becomes waste.

I used to take Vitamin C each day. I think I took 500mg twice a day. I noticed that I don't get sick as often when I do this. It really does help your body a lot, and I've heard you can't overdose on it!

Too much of vitamin C in diet doesn't have any adverse effect although mega doses of vitamin C supplements can cause nausea, diarrhea, kidney stones and inflammation of the stomach mucosa. In a rare condition, too much vitamin C can cause faintness, dizziness and fatigue.

Isn’t Vitamin C supplements artificially manufactured? I believe in what my wise grandma said "excess of anything can cause an undesired effect." I enjoy eating dried or sweetened Amla (Indian Gooseberry) everyday. Our doctor had advised us to do so during H1V1 flu scare.

Your doctor was right by having asked you to have Amla in your diet. Amla or Indian Gooseberry fruit contains high amounts of Vit C (445 mg/100g). Its antioxidant property is quite beneficial to health.

Vitamin c is very beneficial for the proper functioning of the body and also plays a very important part in detoxification of the body. One of the most important sources of vitamin c is gooseberry juice.
