Functions of Proteins
a) Repair and replacement: When body parts get worn out or used up, proteins do the job of repair and replacement.
b) Hormones and enzymes: Most of the hormones needed for the regulation of various body functions and all the enzymes for the different metabolic functions, are proteins by constitution. Without them, life itself would simply come to a stop, as none of the body processes would materilise!
c) Proteins as a source of energy: Like carbohydrates, 1 gm of protein burns to yield four calories of energy.
