Yellow nails can happen if alot of varnish is used regularly, it prevents the nail from breathing, also if the nails are not taken care of ie regular cleaning and buffing they will become discoloured. There are many products on the market that can be used to clean up the nails and allowing them to breath for a while without varnish is good too.

I've never had yellow nails. My nails have always been pinkish. I wear nail polish on my toes more than my fingers. My toe nails are pink too. (when there is no polish on them).

I would think that yellow nails should be checked out by a doctor to make sure they are ok!

I've notice that in my friends nails maybe due to putting on nail colour always. I only polish my toe nails and not really with my finger nails. Every 2 weeks my toenails are pedicured because i have this dry skin that grows fast.

your friends nail color could be constant application of nail color which is not really good either. alcohol, etc are chemical substances that cause nail to be yellowish. "nails need time to breathe" and gain their original color....whihc could be pinkish or yellowish....

My nails are often a yellowish colour, and I am diabetic. I didn't know they two were related at all. Thanks for the information posted here -- I'll have to check with my doctor and see if my meds are off.

Yes healthy nails will always be pink in color. Yellow nails shows less blood circulation in your body. Very thick yellow nails is a symptom of Jaundice disease.

Did you know that the color of your nails can indicate health problems? If your nails are:

* half pink and half white... it could indicate kidney failure
* yellow... could point to diabetes, fungal infection or even heart disease
* black flecks... an injury to the nail or a blood clotting disorder
* black or blue spots... an injury to the nail
* green... fungal or bacterial infection
* white... anemia
* white spots... trauma to the nail bed
