I have a problem with one of my thumb toe nails. Usually, the nail is connected to the skin/flesh. But, one of my thumb toe nails is not. It started off as a very small place from the corner. I thought that the nail was shaped this way, but now, slowly with time, this is getting bigger. The nail is getting detached from the skin. Please help. I don't know why this is happening. I am not cutting off the detached part of the nail, cos it might look odd. Please help me. Will my nail ever get attached to the skin. Do I need to go to a doctor or are there are any home-remedies.

this is fungus in nail, should go to doctor first. have to take treatment atlest 6 months.

I know someone with a similar condition, in his case it was caused by a trauma - he had accidentally kicked something, hard, and a part of the toenail had become detached from the skin. It does not hurt, but it does not grow back to normal, either. Since he is a guy, he is not worried about it too much. Does your toenail hurt at all? If not, perhaps it is harmless as well.

Ouch thinking about it makes me have some goosebumps. It's kinda strange not to feel any pain when it went off his skin. If it was me I'd definitely cried to death.

Nail detached may cause by allergy or vitamin deficiency. Fungus or yeast cause change in the color, texture and shape of the nails. Consul doctor your and take proper treatment else it may lead nail loss.

I think it is a very different case, may be due to infections in the nails. Consult a doctor before the problem become further complicated.
