How do you feel about American remakes of popular foreign movies? I have mixed feelings about them. It seems like the original foreign language version is always better than the Americanized version.

I don't really watch a lot of those movies; however, the ones that I saw left me somewhat unsatisfied as well. I think anything that has been adapted into a different version loses its original substance and even though it has great content, it is never the same as the first version.

I don't understand why Americans just have to remake a movie in order to enjoy it. Why such intolerance to anything foreign?? Translate the movie and watch the original, especially if we are talking about something big and popular. There is a reason it's big and popular, you know.

Well, there is the Oscar-winning Burnt by the Sun by the Russian director Nikita Mikhalkov; it is rather interesting, although a bit hard to watch. Another one made by the same guy that I like a little better is The Barber of Siberia.

It's like we have to Americanize everything here in order for it to be accepted by the mainstream. I don't think that's fair. As a society made of people from all over the world, that's almost as if saying that their culture is not good enough. I like reading the subtitles in a movie. Even if I don't plan on speaking a certain language, I would like to listen to people talk in their native language and pretend that I understand.

| I think things can be changed for fun, but I would hope that they would give credit to the original and make it well known that it wasn't their idea. That way, people can see the original as well. I saw this one movie that had subtitles. I think it was called The Black Book and it was an amazing movie. I think if it were in english, it wouldn't have the same affect. I love things from other places and in other languages

Normally for Bollywood movies (Indian movies) they are generally remakes of Hollywood movies! So The original that we refer to is always Hollywood and they seem to be better to us!

I don't think there's ever been an American remake of a movie that was a major success. Most of the time, they don't tell the audience that it's a remake. Maybe we will think less of the movie? When America does a remake, to me, it's just a sign that the American movie industry is quickly running out of ideas.
