Default The Princess Diaries

The Princess Diaries is a popular comedy-drama film. It was adapted from a novel of same name by Meg Cabot. The film proved to be very popular and earned a lot at the box office.

The film has Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis, who is a teenager with an amazing discovery that she is the heir to the throne of the kingdom of Genovia, which is ruled by her grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi played by Julie Andrews.

The film also has Heather Matarazzo playing Mia's best friend Lilly Moscovitz, and Robert Schwartzman is Lilly's brother, who has a big crush on Mia. The film also has Héctor Elizondo, like all the films directed by Garry Marshall. Here he plays the role of Joseph "Joe", who is the head of Genovian security.

The director Garry Marshall's daughter, Kathleen Marshall, plays the role of Clarisse's secretary Charlotte Kutaway. However Charlotte's surname is revealed only in the film’s credits as a reference to how she was often used in cutaway shots.

As stated above the popular film was directed by Garry Marshall and its producers were Debra Martin Chase and Whitney Houston. The reason behind Anne Hathaway getting hired to play the role of Mia was because Gary Marshall's granddaughters said that she had the best princess hair on watching the audition tapes.

The book on which the film was based, was actually was set in New York City however the film’s location was changed to the city of San Francisco just because Marshall's granddaughters were living there. San Francisco’s famous radio personalities Mark & Brian also appear in the film as themselves.

The film was released into the North American theatres on 3rd of August, 2001. It ended up becoming number three in the box office. The Princess Diaries ended up selling tickets of worth that were well over its production budget.

The film also garnered a sequel titled, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, which was released in August 2004.

I liked The Princess Diaries. I watched it with my 8 yr old daughter. Kind of a good movie for mom and daughter to watch on a Sunday afternoon.

It's definitely one of those feel-good movies. But it's not the type of movie that I'll watch over and over again. Definitely for young kids and teeners out there.

My kids loved this one and so did I. It was a cute film. I loved PD2 also because we got to hear Julie Andrews sing.

I enjoyed this and the sequel, but then I'm a sucker for feel good movies. I think it's a great family movie.

I haven't seen the first part of this I only had the part two which is where Anne Hathaway is the lead star. It's just like a cinderella movie to me.

I was actually looking for something that I can watch with my two daughters this weekend. They are 8 and 9 and I have a feeling they might enjoy this one. I am looking forward to seeing it, as I have always wanted to but never got around to it

This is the movie that my cousin keeps on telling me. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watched this one. Do you think there are still DVD's available?

I think both the Princess Diaries movies are readily available. I don't know where you stay but here by us they are all over the DVD-rental shops. It's a very nice story. A real feel-good movie.

oh!! i forgot about this movie! OMG, I used to watch this all the time. I really looked up to her and it helped me through a lot of hard times. I always felt like an outcast and it was hard for me to keep friends because my mom was always moving me around! It was a confusing time!!

The like the princess diary part 1. The story was really cute and I like the part where Anne had a major transformation. Why didn't she end up with Lily's brother? I thought that he was the one for her. Anyway, the film was really great.

Hmm.. I thought they ended up together in the end? It's been a LONG time since I've seen it so ya.. So, who does she end up with again? Or... doesn't she move away?
