This is one moment that we wait for and long for. The birth of our child! But it is equally important to take of the new born once it comes in our hands. After 9 months of pregnancy the child is born and the now baby should weight on an average at least 2.8 kg. Babies born under this weight need special attention and care. The new borns are usually pink in color after their birth and they pass urine right after the birth. If the baby passes urine within the 24 hours of birth then too it can be considered normal. The first stool that baby passes should be black in color and is pasty in its form. The newborns should be given only breast feed or in case the mother is not milking there are powdered baby milk available in the market. Make sure the child is kept in clean and soft clothes and is not taken in dirty hands.

Once the baby is out of the mother's womb, first thing they do is cry, if they don't do that, they should be held upside down and tapped on their back so that any secretions swallowed by the baby will be eliminated out and baby starts crying, this helps in good respiration, baby should weigh atleast 2.5kg, less than that they are categorized as premature babies and should be taken extra care.

this is a very helpful topic. i am actually on my 36th week of pregnancy, going 37th in a few days. and i am so excited to see my newborn baby. do any of you have any tips on how to bathe a newborn? with my baby girl, i didn't bathe her until her stump fell out. so for the first 3 weeks since she was born, all i did was wash her with a sponge, carefully avoiding the area where her stump is. i just clean the stump with some alcohol and cotton.

One of my cousin had gave birth last week. I asked her, how does she felt? You what she answered? She just smiled at me and said it's like I realized what I've been doing with my mom. Like all the bad things I've done to them. Did you feel this too, when you're giving birth? |

i just gave birth a few days ago, on august 27. am glad that i was able to deliver a healthy baby boy. he weighed 6.82 lbs. for the past few days that i have been taking care of him, he feeds both on breast milk as well as the bottle. he has quite an appetite! i clean his cord stump with a cotton ball and alcohol, and just wash him with a sponge. i don't bathe him in the tub just yet. i also make sure he gets his daily dose of vitamin k by bringing him outside during the early morning for some sunlight.

You should only give the baby a sponge bath until the belly button is all healed. You want to make sure to keep the belly button dry while it is healing. After the belly button is healed, then you should give the baby regular baths. Keeping your baby clean is essential. |

My warm CONGRATULATION to you, calientemamma. Is he your first baby? How did you gave birth, is it a normal delivery or cesarean section? Wow! I guess, you really have your baby a healthy one. |

We should start caring the baby while still inside the womb. You can start talking, giving him/her inspiring words,or even singing him a song while inside the womb. These could help a lot for his emotional developement.

Yes, even while they're in your belly, babies already have a personality. I remember when I was carrying my son inside of me, my husband would speak to him inside my stomach, and my baby would give a kick where my husband's voice was coming from. This would happen allmost every time. He was very playful even inside the womb. And his personality has remained consistent. He's very playful and quite a jokester even now.
