Default No naps

Here is my situation:
I babysit for a 1 yr old. She is on a very good schedule for me. She naps from 9-10 and 1-3 every day. She is very happy when she gets her full naps in.

Today her mom asked me to not give her a nap at 1 because she is going to be picked up at 3 and then they are taking a road trip. Her mom wants her to sleep in the car. I can totally understand this, but she is really messing up my nap schedule! I am almost positive that the little girl will be miserable without her 1pm nap, and she will probably end up waking up the other kids I watch!

Would you want your child to miss her nap to make it easier on your travel time even if it causes her to be miserable?

I would probably try to keep her up maybe a little while so that she would sleep. But if she was totally miserable and crying, then I would probably just let her go.

I would agree with the mom for this particular occasion because if they are going on a road trip, she will need her child to sleep in the car at least a little bit. I understand your point as well but if that is only for this time, I am sure you can find a way to keep her away from the other children who take their naps at the same time. As a babysitter, you should accommodate the mom for these special circumstances as she knows what is best for her child.

I think the mom wants a peaceful trip since mostly kids do fall asleep during a trip so what happens if they wont. I guess it wont hurt a bit if her daily routine will broken once.

I don't think the child will be miserable for just missing one day of her nap schedule. Her mom would just like the child to be comfortable on the road trip and be able to take a nap. She may have reasons for this, and no mother would want their child miserable.

Just an update on this. The poor little girl was miserable. She was so tired and winey, but I kept her up. Then her mom said it took her a long time to get to sleep because she was so overtired! It made for a horrible afternoon for me and a harder trip for the mom.

I would rather choose for my kid to have his nap. and it would make him more comfortable in the trip. if it is a long trip, he might get sleepy still. my son would have tempers if he don't sleep in the afternoon.
