Default Teach your child to walk

Doctors do not recommend walkers as the babies then rely on them too much. Walkers further lead to injuries too. Many countries have banned the use of walkers. It is also not advisable to make the child wear shoes in the house as the child would learn to walk more easily barefooted. If you are holding your child when he or she is trying to walk then don't hold the babies legs or hands. You should hold the baby by his or her body. Call the child to yourself or placing a chocolate or a toy for him or her to reach out to. In this process you need to make sure that the floor is not too slippery so that child may not find it difficult to balance.

Also try giving him something to hold on to at his both hands, like toy. So that he will feel that he is holding to something. Other use monoblock chairs as a guide for walking. They place the chair a foot apart so that the child can easily reach one by one. Then little by little make the space a little far so that he will be able to make another step. But be there to guide him to avoid injury.

Great info, thanks. I agree that we should hold a learning-to-walk baby by her body to assist and encourage her. I just wonder why we are not to hold her hands. Any reasons?

I think babies would learn how to walk on their own faster without those walkers. I also read that babies exposed to walkers don't learn how to fall properly.

I used walkers for all of my babies and loved them! The best thing is that the baby feels safe while learning to walk.

As a parent you have to be right there if your child is in a walker because of the mishaps that can happen in an instant.

Now most people use exersaucers rather than walkers.
