Default Dhokla

Dhokla is Gujarati dish and is quite low in calories. It is easy to cook. just add 1 cup of water to equal amount of besan, put some salt, a pinch of sugar and half a lemon.
Mix it well and put some eno in to it to make it fluffy. mean while put some water on flame in a big container, shift the mixture in to another one greased with a small amount of oil in it, put this in to the big container. Now keep a lid on the bigger one for 10 minutes. It is ready to eat now.

Dhokla is something quite popular, and like mentioned it is very light to eat as it is steam cooked, and you can also get it fry cooked. I was not aware it is a Gujarati dish!

Dhokla is normally eaten with a sweet chutney or green chutney (made of garlic and coriander, i think).

Wow, my mouth is really watering. It's tempting, i love this dish because of two reasons, first, it is very yummy and second, it is very healthy and fat free...

It is not fat free. It is essential to temper it with cumin seeds , mustard seeds and green chillies. sprinkle finely cut corriander leaves before serving.

Well I suppose you can call it fat free to some extent, as not much oil is used in order to fry the mustard seeds and green chillies, its probably a fraction of a spoon of oil used, if I'm not wrong!

Oh I'm so lost with the names of the ingredients. But I'm really interested with Indian foods. I will have to do more research.

By the way, is Dhokla a main dish or an appetizer?
