Default Film Photography

I just started my Photography 1 class and I was kind of surprised that it is devoted strictly to black and white film photography. I have a film camera that I like very much, but with all the digital options available, I just figured that film photography had been done away with.

The professor told us that we are actually going to be developing our own prints in a darkroom. I think it sounds pretty cool. Has anyone else done this before?

I don't develop my film, but I shoot mostly film.
I use digital for family and party snapshots.

I prefer film though it's more expensive to develop. My old film Nikon takes better pictures than alot of newer digital ones.

Yes, film developing costs can add up, but your whole strategy changes,
in digital you just shoot away like a machine gun and hope something
comes out well, I notice when I am shooting film I think a bit more and
take it slow and deliberate and shoot slowly and this gives better results.

Costco is not too expensive for film development.

That seems kinda strange that they would only focus on black and white. You'd think they'd want you to learn how to use all the parts of your camera and experiment with them. Hmm..

I use canon SLR for most of the times. I used to shoot using film cam few years ago, but now that Kodak cam is just a showpiece, though it’s in working condition.

Actually, we will get into color photography in Photo 2 class, but for Photo 1, it's black and white. I think it's easier to develop black and white and then work up to color, rather than having to do it all at the beginning.
