Default 10 Simple Tips on Brain Fitness & Longevity

When we talk about longevity and aging, it will start and end with brain. Aging depends a lot on being active. Being physically active is one thing; we should also care about other forms. A little workout for your brain can bring amazing improvements in aging.

How can I make my brain active?

The simplest answer will be “Give something new”. Expose your brain to different challenges. Let it be memory optimization, active reasoning or an interpretation. Simply give some work, something new, something different.

Practice regularly. Only thing you should care about is the improvement. After a few set of practice, you should be able to identify a change in performance.

Do not stop after a few days. This should be continuous. If you took a break, then start from the beginning. Make sure that you are not asking too much. When you feel tired, don’t force yourselves.

10 Simple Tips

1. Play games

It is an excellent way to tease your brain. Always select a game that provokes interest, it can be chess, crosswords, puzzles or suduku. They improve logical reasoning, brain speed, memory etc.

2. Relaxation

Free your brain from all those complex chemical reactions. Simply stop thinking. Be relaxed for a few minutes. Meditation and Yoga will help you achieve this.

3. Proper diet

Your brain benefits from healthy fats. Use of olive oil in cooking can help a lot. Avoid the use of trans fats. Use nuts, salmon, seeds etc.

4. Read books

Among all these tips, reading is the most beneficial one. As we read, we involve ourselves in the topic. We feel the emotion of author through his words. Let it be a biography, a fiction, fun, all these feelings soothe our brain.

5. Share your feelings

Discuss your feelings with someone you love. Recall the incidents, rearrange and try to present them interestingly. You may also try a diary to record the events.

6. Restrict the use of television

Don’t hang around the television. Let the optimal usage be 4 hours.
Spend some time with your family and friends. This is a necessity for emotional improvement.

7. Physical exercise

It can positively affect the brain. Spend 30 minutes a day.

8. Alcoholism

Limit the usage of alcohol. It may lead to depression.

9. Try something new

Do not keep your brain idle. Learn something new, like a violin class.

10. Train your brain

Try to recall a scene; it can be one from your last vacation. Try to recall the scene in order. In the first attempt, you may hardly write a paragraph. Try again, you will be able to better you performance.

One thing I always try to do since being a stay at home mum is to keep mentally active. I read, write, do sudoku puzzles and help my oldest daughter with maths and number puzzles.
