During the past century, there was a considerable improvement in science and technology. Use of computers, Pace makers, ventilators, MRI scan, radiation therapy etc has increased the quality of life to great extent. Life expectancy rate has gone up; the aging process is hindered to some extent. All these developments can be further supplemented by a few simple adjustments in life style. Do you know? By washing our hands (before food), we can add 2 years to our life. Tobacco smoke houses a number of toxic chemicals. Smoking can reduce you life span by 10 years. 5 Useful Tips 1. Sleep well Interested? Sleeping the best thing you can do to your body. Don’t take it lightly; about 15% of world population suffers from sleeping disorders. Having a sound sleep is not easy as we think. Apart from earlier days, the stress level has gone up. Our life is getting faster than it ever used to be. Optimal sleeping time will be 7 to 9 hours a day. For children, it can go up to 18 hours. Sleeping improves brain health and hence longevity. 2. Drink Water Every physical activity comes at a cost. It consumes energy from our body. As the water content of our body is consumed by this process, we need to refill it with sufficient quantity of water. Make sure you drink at least 8 glass of water everyday. When we fail to supplement the loss, it will lead to dehydration. Sustained dehydration opens the door to diabetes, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol. 3. Diet Under stress, our body increases the production of free radicals. Free radicals can corrode our body and accelerate aging. As we consume a vegetarian diet, we can ensure the supply of antioxidants. Presence of antioxidants can effectively nullify the free radicals in our body. According to German cancer research center, vegetarians can decrease the mortality rate by 30 to 50 %. Do not over use cheese, butter and junk foods. Too many ice creams may not be beneficial. 4. Stress In this competitive world, we cannot stay away from stress. It can find a way or another through work, exams, financial problems, family issues, health conditions etc. An increase in stress level can lead to various physical and mental abnormalities. A few of them being Depression, heart problems and self destructive practices (like suicide, chronic alcoholism etc). Stress depreciates longevity by seriously undermining the immunity of our body. We can reduce stress by adopting Yoga and meditation. 5. Hygiene We can keep hygiene by washing hands, using clean towels, bathing etc. By maintaining proper hygiene, you can add 6 years to your life. |
