Default Cholesterol

Anyone here battling the cholesterol? Mine is a very low 120 but my husbands is over 200 so now we're both on a low cholesterol diet because I can't go eating food in front of him Though sometimes I sneak an egg or two when he's not looking! I'll tell you it's not easy, but I'm finally having some success. Last night I made a shepherds pie with turkey meat and he didn't even notice the difference! YAY

My husband has high cholesterol. It is hereditary, did you know that?

He has been put on Lipitor, but has been having really bad cramps in his legs. It told him that I would rather he try the fish oil pills~ I have heard they are helpful in lowering cholesterol.

People with cholestral problems have to take good care of what they eat, and there are so many things which can make it rise or go low, depending on what your cholestral level is.

I have also heard fish oils are good for lowering cholestral, as they have omega 3.

thanks for your information. the problem is that i am a vegetarian(not the fish eating type vegetarian..only mock fish!). so, i bought flax seeds oil supplement because i heard that it is also a rich source of omega fatty acids...do not know whether it is effective enough...

i also get leg cramps on and off...i did not knwo that it could be related to my cholesterol level..thanks,antkmom

Liza, the leg cramps mentioned previously are not due to cholesterol.
It is probably due to the cholesterol medication Lipitor.

Please let me know the LDL, HDL and Triglicerides values. Switch to high protein diet (for your husband) with white meat - turkey, even though is white, is still high on fats. Switch to chicken, if possible.

LDL is bad cholestrol. LDL value beyond 150 needs close attention. To reduce weight, start aerobics or abs.

High cholestrol is hereditory. Cholestrol does not cause cramps. Ask him to drink more water (no soda's please) and switch to room temp water (no ice). Fish oils (such as cod liver oil) is good. But olive oil is just as good.

Cramps may not be for the cholesterol level but cannot say as it surely is not.
Cholesterol is type of Non-reactive lipid it gets deposited in the arteries and veins, and these artries and veins run all along the body so it can deposit in the limb also. It then blocks the proper oxygen supply to the parts of the limb and may get cramps

our body reacts exactly the opposite way of what we are giving it.
ie, You take cold water and as soon as it goes inside our body starts to increase the heat of the surrounding of water to get it to room temperature the same with the hot too, taking the cold water reduces the temperature of the surrounding and in that surrounding veins and arteries also will be there so the lipid will get hardened due to the cold temperature

A lot of non-American born people have a thing about the temperature of water. My husband is convinced that ice water makes you fat.

Also as for eating Turkey.. I use turkey because the ground turkey meat is 100% breast meat with no skin, while the ground chicken meat often has skin and fat ground in with it.. so ground turkey has less fat and cholesterol than ground chicken.

Geez, guess I'm not comfortable w/o cold drinking water, but yeah it also makes your body reacts with the warm temperature inside or outside your body. I have colds now. but still drinking cold water (just being me-hard headed)

I have heard that eating fresh garlic helps to lower cholesterol, does anyone know whether it is true or garlic is only good against vampires?

"Health is wealth." We really have to take care of our health,if you have a cholesterol problem you have to give an extra care of it and be more consious of the food you ate. How about eating vegetables and fruits, can it help?

Yes, my husband has it. High carbohydrate valued food items and fat items will increase the cholesterol. So try to have control over mouth and tongue.

Good for you! I like that you're being so supportive. And, the cool thing is, this will help you too, even though yours is fine, it may help you in other ways. Good work And, I'd be sneaking food too BELIEVE ME lol. It would take some time to get used to!!!
