Default Metabolism

I was wondering, at what age does metabolism start to slow down? I have good news, my grandmother had really fast metabolism her whole life and I hope I have the same. I crave sweets basically all the time and I am worried that one day my body won't be able to handle them.

In most cases it happens after 30. Sometimes it slows down gradually, in other cases it is like "turning a switch" - that's how my uncle describes it. You sound like you've got good genes though.

It usually depends on the individual, so some people have felt a shift in their metabolism as late as their forties. Even if you like sweets, you just have to manage how your body deals with those sweets, so don't forget to stay active.

Hmm nice info I also likes sweet stuffs and sodas. My uncle is in his forties already still he eats a lot without getting fat I guess his secret is really being so active since he does a lot of jobs that needs physical labor.

Once I move into an apartment, I'm going to really try to stick with the treadmills. I'm sure working out with my bf will help me. I just hate to do things on my own. Plus, we'll have a hot tub and a pool, so I can swim this summer!! I LOVE swimming b/c it doesn't feel like you're working out at all. I'm sure that's fine with everyone lol

Being active definitely keeps our BMR (basic metabolic rate) to a standard level. Swimming is a great activity for staying healthy. Our BMR tends to increases after few laps & would have an average effect in the long run.

Oh I hate swimming because I can't swim. When I was at swimming class as our PE I always got excuses everytime lol like I got my period. I'm just scared in the deep part of it makes me always feel like I'm going down and not floating.

Oh, that would be pretty scary then. My dad can't swim either. I've found, the easiest thing to do when you don't know how to swim is float on your back. It's kinda scary, but I promise you, anyone can do it.
