Scientists are using 3-D scans and cameras for seeing mammograms in 3-D. It is said that it would improve the breast examination procedure for cancer in women as the mammograms at present are incapable of examining the dense breasts. But the radiologists believe that 3-D glasses are not sufficient. The Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota is experimenting with 3-d cameras. They think it is a challenge for the MRI scan images which are costlier. The most women with high risk can now opt for 3-D breast camera images whose price is just a fraction. Since, both the technologies are still at experimental stage, the researchers are watching closely into it as it is the most needed for women.

It would be nice to have this technology available in more places eventually. Health issues are really delicate, especially when it comes to breast cancer and hopefully, 3-D scans will become a regular practice for more women to take advantage of.

I'd be all for that. I had a mammogram when I was 30 and it wasn't comfortable. It was necessary and it was peace of mind. I think if this was readily available for all women and it worked as well, more women would have exams. Less deaths from breast cancer.

| Thanks for the info! It's great to hear that things are changing for the better. I say, anything that makes life easier/less painful.. sounds like a plan to me . I've never actually had a mammogram. I've heard it's not too comfortable. Is it true though that it hurts more when you have larger breasts?
