| Hello everyone! I am going to call my doctor in the next few days to get her advice, but I was wondering if any of you could help me with this: So, I suffer from anxiety, depression and OCD. I started taking an anti-depressant in June/July called Citalopram. I currently take 10mg a day, which is literally the lowest dosage they offer. I think I have a better handle on my positive thinking now and I wanna try to see how I do without the pills. However, I realize that they are highly addictive and this is something that I have to do very carefully. I've heard if you just stop cold turkey, you can get suicidal and things like that. So.. obviously, I'm nervous, because never in my life have I been on something like this and I've never dealt with withdrawals before.. Has anyone went through withdrawals in their life? I mean, even if it was for drugs or alcohol.. I'm just curious what it's like so I have an idea what I may go through? Also, has anyone ever quit a drug like this before? Have any advice. Thanks in advance!! Hope to hear from you soon!!!

I had an alcohol problem, but never a pill related addiction so I cannot tell you how it's going to be for you. Ask your doctor if he/she can reccommend anything that is herbal. I was having anxiety attacks but my doctor didn't want me taking anything addictive and he told me to buy a specific herbal pill, and it does work wonders for helping you get to sleep, to stop the palpatations and to generally make you feel less nervous. Let us know how you get on, and good luck! |

| Basically, I've been taking my pills less and less. (I didn't talk to my doc.. bad, I know) But ya, overall I feel pretty good. It's been a tough road and I am very tired and things like that. I feel all the old tendencies coming back. Good news is, I've learned about my condition and I think I can handle it much better than I was before

Is that a good idea to stop taking your pills so suddenly? If you quit and go cold turkey, it could put your body in a withdraw mode. That can be difficult to deal with. Maybe it's better to ease yourself off the pills.

I have struggled with depression, but I have never been taking pills for it, so I can't give any advice here, sorry about that. It is definitely a good idea to have your doctor lead you through the process. I suggest that you tell him/her that you have been taking less - perhaps it's a good thing, and it will help you to quit.

I think best thing would be that while your trying to quit the pills, be with someone who is close to you, spend time with them, go on holiday or some nice place where there is a change of scenery, do something which you enjoy, and this should all help in your being able to quit the pills!
