Default What is Low Blood Pressure?

Like high blood pressure many people are unaware of low pressure and generally the symptoms of low blood pressure are ignored, but one thing must be realized that low blood pressure is as dangerous as high blood pressure.

What is low blood pressure?
Blood pressure simply means the force which is exerted by circulating the blood on blood vessel walls. Blood pressure is generated by blood being pumped by the heart into the arteries, which is regulated by the arteries responding the flow of the blood.
Like high blood pressure, low blood pressure is measured in the same way using two numbers the top being systolic pressure and bottom being the diastolic pressure.

Quote:
The two numbers given when blood pressure is measured are as follows:
The top number known as the systolic blood pressure is the pressure in the arteries as the heart contracts and the blood pumps forward to the arteries.
The bottom number known as the diastolic pressure is the pressure present in the arteries when the heart relaxes after contractions.
Low blood pressure is also known as hypotension, and means the pressure or flow of the blood is low. The flow of the blood become low and it becomes difficult for oxygen to be delivered to the important organs in the body which are the brain, heart, kidneys and these then have problems in functioning and can cause permanent damage.

General signs of low blood pressure include feeling light headed, dizziness, chest pains and sometimes fainting. Generally low pressure is required for someone who doesn't drink or smoke, but as long as it doesn't go low enough. Low blood considered if the blood pressure is anywhere below 100/70.

Low blood pressure sounds like a problem that can be treated more easily than high blood pressure. Is this a condition linked to anemia?

God blood pressure is something that needs to be checked! Whether low or high both can be dangerous.

Thanks again Harpreet for the information, and letting us know of the signs of low blood pressure which are generally taken over our heads thinking we are just not well or may have a cold.

I think a lot less people suffer from low blood pressure, but it is indeed an ailment that really exists. I've heard that people with low blood pressure, especially women, have iron deficiency and get cold easily.

I sometimes wonder if I have low blood pressure, because I get weak and light headed a lot. I know sometimes I don't eat as much as I should and I don't nearly exercise enough. I can't even try to tell myself that I exercise. I get so exhausted now when I do. May just be a side effect of the withdrawals I'm going through.. not sure

Well I have both but I have no idea if they are both linked. Fortunately my blood pressure is not so low that it is causing me to be medicated.
