Nuts & Seeds: Source of ‘Good Fats’
Nuts and seeds are the life generating and revitalizing foods essential for vibrant health. The term ‘dry fruits’ is used to indicate the commonly eaten nuts like almonds, cashews, pistachios, etc. These nuts are actually seeds and not fruits.
Dry fruits: Dates (Khajoor), raisins (Kishmish), figs (anjeer), apricots and currants – good source of minerals like iron, calcium and copper.
Nuts: Almonds, cashews, walnuts, and pistachios. The groundnut, which is actually a legume (pulse), is included in this category, as it resembles, nuts in its nutrient content. Nuts are valuble for the essential fatty acids and proteins they contain.
Seeds: Til (sesame) seeds and mustard seeds are commonly consumed in India. In western countries, there is a greater consumption of sunflower, pumpkin, melon and flaxseeds. Seeds, too, are important for the essential fatty acids they offer.
