Not many people know what health food is, and just think its good food, but there is more to this than that! Health food is food which are low in fat and sugar, and some good examples of health foods include wheat germ, alfalfa sprouts, yogurt and many others. In the category of healthy foods is also organic foods and natural foods, which are getting popular by the day in many countries. Im quite a health food freak, and love eating healthy foods, it maybe because i have had too much of junk food, and have learnt how to enjoy healthy food and make it a part of my daily life! Its not important to solely eat health foods and not have other foods, you can have other foods but in majority, but also include the healthy foods to balance things out! |

Organic foods too can be considered as health foods. That is they have no preservatives and are sold "as is" after they are grown. Also raw foods are encouraged but they should be limited. Cooked food is easier on the digestive system than raw foods.

I love fresh fruit and veggies. I cat eat veggies plain, like carrots, for example - I don't do anything with them, just peel and crunch. I also like making salads, mixing together all kinds of veggies I have at hand and using vegetable oil for dressing.

Low fat yogurt is always a good choice. Don't be so hard on carbs, if you are working out on a daily basis, you need some carbs, they fuel your body. The trick is to eat healthy carbs, not empty ones such as refined sugar. Stick to whole grain cereals and breads. Half a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread before your work out will provide protein and enough carbs to get you through it with flying colors. I think a practical book to use is "Eat This Not That" . I don't have it yet but want to get it. It looks like a decent guide. Sometimes we try to over do it on what not to eat. If you eat high protein low carbs. It just seems to work better. Even if you losing weight I would think high protein is the way to go, and a doctors appointment asap. It may very well be a thyroid condition. And loading up on junk does not seem like the logical thing to do to gain a few pounds. More veggies, less fruit I say because of the natural sugars. Beef, Chicken, and fish. Baked , broiled, or barbecued. I love 12 grain bread. Try googling also for if there is any nutritional diets recommended for an overactive thyroid. Also limit anything that comes in a box or package. If it is processed , ehh not so great. Stick to the basics for the most part. Last edited by jack2009; 06-11-2009 at 01:36 PM. |

I love eating apples with walnuts. Somehow, the combination tastes perfect to me, and it is a very healthy choice. It is filling, too, probably because of walnuts, so it makes an excellent breakfast or midday snack.

fruits and vegetables are the most important health food. Fruit juices with less sugar or without sugar, milk etc are much healthy. High calorie food (faty foods) like ghee, meat for regular intake is not good for health. We are living in a busy world. we don't find time to choose and prepare healthy foods. we are prefering the food items which takes less time to prepare. So we can take fruits which need no preparation. Also some vegetables like carrot we can take as it is. Don't give importance to packed food items, packed juices and other drinks. |

Yeah, having sugar in our regular diet is that much healthy, in place of sugar try jaggery, it is useful for our body by increasing the heamoglobin level. Any sweets you make at home with sugar, try replacing them with jaggery. Nuts with jaggery are really helpful in incresing heamoglobin level, it is highly recommended for pregnant women.

Dry fruits are also healthy foods, they increase the haemoglobin levels, are rich in protein and also fibre, easily digestible, they help in increasing the brain functions. Dry fruits are advised for a pregnant women in a special way, so that the nervous system of the foetus developes well.
