Default Mean Hairdresser

There was this lady who did my hair a few months back that was really rude. I think she was irritated, because I came in really close to the end of her shift, and she had to stay about 30 minutes longer. (This was a place that accepts walk-ins, and they weren't going to be closing for many hours) Well, she was cutting my hair and also adding blonde and red streaks to it. While she was cutting my hair, she was yanking it from left to right instead of asking me to move my head for her. She touched my eyes a few times with her finger nails and that was pretty uncomfortable, but it wasn't bad enough to hurt or anything. When she was done my neck was SO sore. I was so upset with her that I just wanted to leave before she was even done. You know how weird I am? I TIPPED her!! I will never forget that. Why did I even put up with it? I was going to call and speak to the manager the next day, but didn't end up doing it.

I think a part of me felt bad, because at times, she was really trying to be nice to me. I was wondering if maybe she didn't realize how rough she was being on me.

Either that or she was having a bad day before you even showed up. Some people are not able to leave their problems at home when they come to work and seem to like taking it out on others by either behaving the way your hairdresser did or just making people miserable by their whining...

You could be right. It's just funny how I really don't think I'll ever go back, because I'm worried she'll be there, and I don't wanna make it a big deal or anything but I would never let her touch me again haha.

I think you should have spoken up. Maybe she needed someone to tell her that she was being too rough with her hair. Maybe she really needed an encouraging word. It could just have been a really off day for her.

I probably wouldn't tip her, but I know I would not have said anything, either. I am the patient type who'd rather put up with things than make waves, unless I am really ticked.

Even if she was having a bad day, it's no excuse to go on treating clients that way. It's staff like that which can really give a place a bad reputation.

Your mistake was to tip her. You also should have called and spoke to the manager about her the following day.

I had a bad experience with a haircut before and called and complained. The manager said that I was the 3rd complaint, so the lady was fired. Three strikes and she was out of there! They also gave me a free cut, free wax and free deep cleaning treatment.

I guess I am the kinda person who feels guilty if I don't tip people. As weird as it sounds, I just feel like it's my duty. I know she didn't deserve it, and I know I also gave her WAY too big of a tip. Sad thing is, I've always loved that place, but am so scared to go back b/c I don't want to get her again. I really wish I would have called the next day and complained!!
