I have heard about TSS before, but I am not really sure what it is, how you get it or even how you can tell if you have got it. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? |

Toxic shock syndrome (TSS) is a serious but uncommon bacterial infection. TSS was originally linked to the use of tampons, but is now also known to be associated with the contraceptive sponge and diaphragm birth control methods. TSS has also resulted from wounds secondary to minor trauma or surgery incisions where bacteria have been able to enter the body and cause the infection. The symptoms of TSS include sudden high fever, a faint feeling, watery diarrhea, headache, and muscle aches |

A major outbreak of TSS was linked a few years back to ultra absorbant tampons which have since been taken off the market. To prevent TSS do not leave a tampon in for longer that stated on the box . Also be wary of you are using novelty items for sex such as whipped cream or body chocolate or edible undergarment as foreign bodies can sometimes end up in your vaginal canal and can be dangerous.

So you can get toxic shock syndrome because you wore your tampon for too long? That can't happen if you're wearing a pad, can it? I remember when I first heard about TSS, and it really scared me.
