A hysterectomy is a very common surgery for women. For many women it is a life saving procedure. After a hysterectomy a woman can no longer have children. There is a direct relationship between being a woman and having children. Does having a hysterectomy make a female feel like less of a woman?

Having a hysterectomy shouldn't make her feel like she's less of a woman or less feminine, but I'm sure that there are many women who do feel this way. It can be psychologically damaging. How else does this procedure physically affect the woman?

It didn't make me feel like it one bit. At first I was a bit sad because it was the end of me being able to have children. Although I had 4 beautiful children, it was just the thought that I couldn't have any more. Then reality set in and no more periods ![]() ![]() Now I am a woman who doens't have to plan my vacations around my cycle!

It shouldn't be that women feel less of a woman becuase they have had a hysterectomy but I can see how some may think that way, particularly if we are talking about a younger woman who has not yet had children.

I'm sure it would make many women feel like less of a woman, but I don't think it should. If that's what they want to do, then it should be fine. I'm sure it's a very tough decision to make. I mean, what if you wanna have kids later?

I can understand how it could affect a woman if the hysterectomy was unplanned, sudden and performed at a young age when the woman did not already have any children. It shouldn't make a woman feel any less of one at all, but then I suppose it's one of those situations where you have to be in that position yourself before you can make a comment. |
