Default Tubes tied

My daughter is considering having her tubes tied. She is quite young (23) for this procedure. However she has been told by several doctors that due to an illness and the medications, she should never have children. I'm fully supportive of her decision as it will prevent accidental pregnancy but I'm interested in thoughts from other mothers or young women. Any comments?

This is a very touchy subject. If it is best for her, she should listen to the doctors, but from personal experience, maybe she should give the decision some time. My sister was in a similar situation years ago, where the docs recommended she had her tubes tied. She was around the same age as your daughter and decided not to and now she has 3 beautiful children 10, 6, and 1 1/2.

I am 24 now but had my tubal at age 23. After I had my first child, I was hospitalized with a blood clot and and after many many tests, they found out I have a genetic defect that causes my blood to clot w/ hormones (pregnancy is BAD for my body). I was not allowed to use any kind of birth control with hormones, among other things. I got pregnant again when I was 22 and my Dr's highly suggested I did not get pregnant again.

For me it was a no-brainer.

It would be a hard decision to make, especially not having children.

I don't think 23 is too young, but she definitely needs to put much consideration into it.

She really should do some research on this. Is it suggested that she won't be able to have children, or she shouldn't? You never know, a miracle might happen and she could get pregnant down the road and have a healthy pregnancy. I would hate for her to make a rash decision and then regret it later in life.
I would research the condition she has and definitely support her in any decision she makes.

Phew that's a sticky situation but if you child's condition is really serious better take the opinions of the experts for this. I was only 20 before when I was told by my doctor that my body was so weak and advised not to get pregnant for a very long time.

This reason for getting this procedure sounds reasonable enough, but I would get all the information that I needed and a second opinion first. How safe is this procedure?

I'm not sure about the procedure since only doctors know that but I think it would be for the best. The only option I can see is not to be pregnant but there's still some risks on this.

Your daughter is very young for this procedure. I think she should get another opinion about if she shouldn't have children. If all the doctors agree that it would be safer for your daughter not to have kids then it would be a good idea to have her tubes tied, if that is what she wants. All she has to do in the mean time is to make sure she doesn't become pregnant and that is easier than many people think it is.
