IUD - Intra-Uterine Device
An intra-uterine device (IUD) is a small object that is inserted through the cervix and placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy. This little device is not noticeable during the intercourse and it can last quite a longtime (1 to 10 years). Even though they offer no protection against STDs, they are up to %99 effective as birth control. It can be inserted during the period or anytime and be removed anytime as well.
I have asked my doctor for the IUD and got it inserted. I have had no side effects, though my doctor advised that I might get heavier and more painful menstrual periods. If you are considering this device as a birth control, you should be advised that beside the heavier periods, it has also might have the following side effects: weight gain, headaches, acne, depression, decrease in sex drive.
I am happy to report that none of these has been an issue for me so far, and I think it's the best thing I could've ever offered myself.
