Default IUD - Intra-Uterine Device

An intra-uterine device (IUD) is a small object that is inserted through the cervix and placed in the uterus to prevent pregnancy. This little device is not noticeable during the intercourse and it can last quite a longtime (1 to 10 years). Even though they offer no protection against STDs, they are up to %99 effective as birth control. It can be inserted during the period or anytime and be removed anytime as well.

I have asked my doctor for the IUD and got it inserted. I have had no side effects, though my doctor advised that I might get heavier and more painful menstrual periods. If you are considering this device as a birth control, you should be advised that beside the heavier periods, it has also might have the following side effects: weight gain, headaches, acne, depression, decrease in sex drive.

I am happy to report that none of these has been an issue for me so far, and I think it's the best thing I could've ever offered myself.

Ive heard about, but not from someone who has actually had it inserted. How long has it been since you have had the IUD inserted, is it something painful or not?

I heard there are women who had uterine infection because of IUD. Isn't it too invasive to have an instrument inside you? Do you feel the device or is it just like you don't have anything inside you?
