Default Tax Season

It's tax season, and I have to file for the first time in my life because of the money that I made online. Has anyone filed their taxes yet? I did already, and I actually owe money because I was considered to be self-employed, and I didn't have any taxes taken out. Has anyone had any similar issues with filing their taxes?

My husband and I file our taxes together, and since we both were employed in 2009, we've had taxes taken out, so hopefully we don't owe anything, even with my online earnings. Yes, if you work as a freelancer, you are self-employed, and you will need to pay taxes from your earnings, so it's a good idea to set some money aside for that during the year.

There are many tax calculators available on the internet.

Here is a link for one of them.

In India if you are a freelancer/self employed, your tax will be lesser than a salaried person.

You shouldn't have to pay anything unless you have made over like 30,000 dollars. That sucks that you owed money!!

I think it is something like $12000. If you made less than that
you don't have to file taxes.

you can go to turbotax.com and use that online.

I'll do that. Gosh, now I'm stressing out, because I thought working online wasn't taxed unless you made a ton of money. I'll probably end up talking to someone. I'm not doing my taxes this year, because I know I am owed money, don't owe anything and I never got my info in the mail. I'm being lazy and I heard it's easier to get it next year, because the IRS will have it, versus me trying to contact my old job.. They always messed up stuff like that so I'd rather not lol

Well I guess if you declared that you have an income of course it will be taxed no matter where you got it as long as you are earning. At least the higher your salary the lesser the tax will be in some other country but ours is the other way around. My online pay is not being taxed here so I get it for full. And my office work, the company is incharge for it since we got our tax withheld monthly.

What software do you guys use to do your taxes? Do you file them electronically? We use Turbotax, it is nice and convenient. It is also compatible with Qucken, which we use to keep track of our finances - so you can just get all the info from one program to the other.
