It’s so difficult to raise kids these days, especially when they approach their teens. I do want them to enjoy spare time. But it really bothers me when they just while away their time by hanging out at cafes and multiplexes all day long. My son is studying commerce and is in his first year. So he’s relatively free. I wanted him to do something more constructive with his spare time. I convinced him to volunteer with an NGO. At first he was quite apprehensive, but eventually decided to give it a shot. He got on to the internet and found out that www.jaagore.com has a social exchange section, which allows people to volunteer with NGOs. It’s been around one month since he registered with an NGO called Christel House India, where he teaches Math and English When I asked him about his experience, he replied saying that, “I’m lovin’ it.” |

That's pretty cool and he did the right choice. I bet he's so proud that he listened to your advice.

It's always so hard to get most teens to volunteer. I was one of those teens. To graduate from high school, we had to work forty hours of community service. Fortunately, I was able to find something that I liked to do. That's the key to volunteering.

I think teaching kids to volunteer is a great idea. I wish I would have done that growing up! I bet it's a great feeling.

I certainly wish more kids would go out into the world and do things like your son has. Life is about experiences and having fun when you are young. I'm glad yours has taken the opportunity to do a wonderful thing.
