| I was wondering if anyone knows why women and children are put in front of men? This happens in natural disasters, and things of that nature. The main example I am thinking of is in the movie Titanic. Why is it, the men were forced to stay on the boat, until all the women and children were rescued. Thinking in terms of continuing the human race, I would think we would need men and women, right? Does anyone have any ideas why it is this way?If I were in a situation like that, I would want my bf to come with me, I wouldn't want to be alone!

I guess it comes from the perspective that women and children are physically weaker and need more help, more protection during a crisis than men. Children especially so, and the child would need their mother to take care of them. I think no woman who truly loves her husband would want to leave him behind. |

| Oh I see, that makes sense.. still sucks but it makes sense. That would be a tough decision, but if I had to choose between my bf and our child (if we had one), I would choose the child and I'm sure he would too. The child still has the rest of their life ahead of them.

I would choose my children too. My girls are my number one priority right now, but will that balance shift when they get older and less dependant on me?

I think it all goes back to the structure of the family. The man is supposed to be the protector and provider for the family. As the protector and provider, he has to put the family's needs and safety above his own. If he doesn't look after them, who will?
