Default Dental Hygiene A Simple Way to Achieve Longevity

Hygiene is a life style issue. Different cultures blend this with our daily life. As life changes, we need to make modifications to our routine. A few simple steps will ensure the dental hygiene. Dental hygiene depends on the cleaning practices and diet.

Do you know?

Maintaining a proper dental hygiene will add 1.5 years to your life.

Want more? According to Dr. Michael F. Roizen, MD, you may add up to 6 years. There are a number of studies connecting life expectancy and Dental Hygiene. They may show a difference in number of years gained. But all of them confirm the positive effect of dental hygiene in aging.

Our body is sealed to the maximum extent possible. Skin and hair prevents the penetration of foreign particles. A few body fluids like mucus are also used for this purpose. But there are certain exceptions. We should have provisions for intake of food and air. Our mouth is the largest receptor of foreign particles.

How does it work?

Saliva and digestive enzymes prevent the abnormal action of these particles. But there may be an accumulation in the teeth. We are aware about the risk of gum diseases. But we are unaware of the risk of a heart disease. This may sound weird, but remember Truth is stranger than fiction.

The accumulation of dirt will provide a breeding ground for bacteria. They feed on this dirt and produce acid and volatile sulfur compounds. These ungrateful guests may even find their way to arteries. Our body responds by releasing certain chemicals that cause inflammation to the affected parts. This inflammation makes the artery narrow. It increases the work load of your heart. A rise is blood pressure or a risk of heart diseases will be unavoidable.

Recent studies suggests that an improper oral hygiene may lead to

1. Heart attack
2. Stroke
3. Diabetes complications
4. Osteoporosis
5. and Bacterial pneumonia

Tips for Dental Hygiene

• Brush regularly. Twice a day will be appropriate.

• Choose a proper tooth brush.

• Choose a reliable tooth paste.

• Healthy eating habits

• Oral irrigation

• Teeth cleaning

Twice a year will be appropriate. Use the service of a professional.

• Dental flossing

Dental floss is normally made of Nylon. Dental floss effectively cleans the parts inaccessible to brush. Avoiding dental floss will lead to the formation of tartar. Tartar is known to house more dangerous bacteria than plaque.

• Inter dental brushing

It can be more effective than regular brushing. Choose the brush carefully. It should match the inter dental spacing. Inter dental brushing is gentle on gums.

• Tongue cleaning

Tongue is another breeding zone for bacteria. These bacteria can spread to teeth and arteries.

Is twice a day brushing ok? I thought we should be brushing our teeth every after meal, so that means 3 times a day. If you eat more than 3 times, that would be more brushing.

I noticed my friend keeps on brushing her teeth every time after she ate. If she ate 4 times then she would also brush her teeth more than that. Do you think, that could still a proper teeth care?
