Default Growing fresh fruit and vegetables

One of the great advantages of having your own garden is that you can easily grow your own fresh fruits and vegetables. There is a lot which can be grown especially if you have a big garden and a bit of interest in gardening.
I remember tomotoes being grown in my back garden, along with spinish, corriander, mint, chillies and an apple tree which was in my old house.

I would love to have a fruit garden. My grandmother had one, and I loved it. It takes some time for the trees to get established and start producing though. We have some apple trees, but they are too young, they do not grow apples yet.

I have a small vegetable garden at my house. We grow cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers. We also have a strawberry patch. It is crazy how many strawberries we get!

Gardening is my favorite thing to do. It's hard work but the benefits are amazing. There is nothing like going to the garden and grabbing dinner.

We plant tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, radishes, peppers, lettuce, beans, and I'm sure I'm forgetting things.

I love this time of year- We just roto-tilled the garden to get it ready for planting.

I have a garden for a second year in a row. Last year I planted to late so some of my stuff never gave me veggies--they started to just as we got the first frost.

This year I started way early and now I have had to replant seeds, but it is looking pretty good.

I have a couple types of different tomatoes, hot banana peppers, sweet banana peppers, peas, radishes, pumpkins, Jalepenos, (and just replanted) cucumbers, pickle cucumbers, and zucchini's. I still need to throw in some lettuce and some yellow squash.

I hope everything comes out great this year. I want to be able to enjoy what I have worked so hard for.

What kind of strawberries do you use? I have been thinking about planting some, so I'd appreciate a tip on what's good!

We are moving to our very own home soon! And I am thinking of growing my own vegetables. We won't have a garden. I will be using pots. Do you have any suggestions on what vegetables are easy to plant and maintain?

They sure are a lot of work aren't they? But it's so worth it in the end. We put down mulch around a lot of the plants in the garden this year. We are trying to stop the weeds from over taking everything! Also moved the rows out farther so we can roto-till in between to knock down weeds too.

Good luck to everyone and their gardens.

I never had fresh fruit or veg at my house, but when i got married and moved in with my in laws, i found that their whole garden is full of fruits and veg.
I never knew why someone would bother to have them, but now i know and think its really good to grow your own fresh fruit and veg.

Unhappy You are all an inspiration

Well done all of you. I think growing your own vegies etc is great.

I used to grow heaps of stuff. Finally I got sick of battling with one pest after another.

Yep!!! Discouraged I gave up.

However I still have fruit trees growing. That is pretty cool. Not half as much work involved in looking after them.

We just throw a net over them when fruit is coming on which protects most of them. And we feed them a couple of times a year.

Who knows, maybe one day I will get into vegies again but at this point fruit trees and flowers suit me just nicely.

Keep it up guys. I feel totally guilty.

I love gardening. Growing vegetables in our garden is good. We will get fresh and healthy vegetables.

In my garden i have planted some vegetables. If you spray pesticides in regular interval of time pest control is very easy.

Gardening is one of my favorite habit. I like planting vegetables, flowering plants and some herbal plants. This helps me and my family to save money and keep in touch with nature, what do you think?

A few months back I attempted to grow some tomatoes but after sprouting a couple of leaves it would die. I don't know what I am doing wrong, are tomatoes really that hard to grow?

No it is not that hard to grow them, but it does matter where you are , what type of soil you have and how the weather has been. I tried to do the same thing this year but because we had a late start for spring because it frosted in May my garden is not doing that great either . Next year I think I am going to start everything in the house because of that .

I used to have gardening at home. Of course, this is one thing that I loved to did during my pastime. However, our soil at our backyard is not so good. My plants didn't grew well. What do you think should I do for this?

I actually tried to applied fertilizer once. Well, I noticed it works. Moreover, I'm thinking that the problem is in the type of soil. Do you think you have to choose a fertilizer that would be compatible with your soil?

I think alot of it does have to do with your soil and the nutrients and enzymes that it is missing. In fact I wrote an article on growing veggies and ways to save money if any one is interested click on the link under my name to read it.

I love growing fresh fruits and vegetables but no longer have the place to do it. We just moved into a condo and the only place I have is my patio. I am not quite sure that I can grow much there either. So, for me, it is back to visiting the farmer's market...

That is not always necessary In fact you could grow somethings in your house all year round to help with the cost of your grocery bill.

My sister bought a vacant lot near our house a few years ago. Now we are using it as a small vegetable garden. Unfortunately the soil may need a bit of conditioning because the first batch of vegetables we planted was flop. Half the plants died and the few that survived barely produced anything worth harvesting.
