Default What do You Consider American Food?

Since most of the food in America actually come from other cultures and countries, it got me to wondering what exactly is American food? What's uniquely American?

This is just what comes to mind for me:
apple pie, hamburgers, french fries. I'm not sure if those are correct. I see what you mean though, now that I think about it, so much of what we have here is from other cultures. Very fascinating. Are other countries the same too, as much as we are here?

There aren't as many countries where you have people from all over the world wanting to live there. Our food comes from there. I think what we have that's "uniquely" American is chicken fried steak. That's mostly considered southern food, though. Anything else?

Most people associate American food with burgers, they think that's all people eat here, LOL. Many are surprised to hear about all kinds of dishes our family cooks and enjoys. Perhaps some of them are not uniquely American since we have European heritage as well, but most families I know don't live just on burgers, either.

I'd say BBQ ribs are a part of American cuisine, aren't they?

I guess BBQ ribs does count. If you try to picture the American meal, you might think of a picnic, right? The people at the picnic would be eating hamburgers and hot dogs, but those come from other countries. Even something that seems as American as the sandwich comes from another country.

How about the Chili? First time I tasted it I really didn't like the taste of it. T_T Also the corned beef its kinda different in ours. My grandma likes it since she spent 25 years in the US now that she's here in the phil she used to eat meals like what she eats there.

Corned beef is actually an Irish dish, as far as I know. It has been adopted by the Americans, but it is pretty much served around St. Patrick's Day, as a special holiday dish. I like it, I make corned beef more often than that. (I don't get it why it has to be served with boiled cabbage though - yuck.)
