Yes it is. My mother had given birth to me at the age of 40. However, it will take sometime or rather, you will be needing more effort if it is your first pregnancy.

If you want to get pregnant at that age, take your time off. The more stressful your environment is, the more possibility that you won't get pregnant.

Yes it is, I know a few people who have and are currently pregnant/had a baby at 40 and over 40. I'm hitting 40 and plan to get pregnant later this year, I'll be having a few checks but now a days 40 is acceptable.

Wow. Thumbs up to you. I salute your courage(not caring about other people 's comments!). I suppose that this child is going to be an addition, huh?

Yes, it is possible to get pregnant until you complete menopause, which varies in age of occurrence but tends to occur around 50. It may be more difficult to become pregnant and risks for birth defects such as Downs syndrome are higher. An amniocentesis should be performed in older pregnant women early in the second trimester to detect fetal defects.

Babyhopes.com offers valuable advice:

How can a woman over 35 reduce her risks?

Thanks to research and development in this field, today most women in their late 30s and 40s who are planning pregnancy can look forward to having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. However, older women should follow the following guidelines for a healthy pregnancy:

* Plan for pregnancy by seeing a doctor before you try to conceive. You must review all you medical conditions, medications and immunizations at this time.
* Take a prenatal vitamin containing 400 micrograms of folic acid daily before you become pregnant and through the first month of pregnancy to help prevent neural tube defects.
* Get early and regular prenatal care.
* Eat a variety of nutritious foods, including foods containing folic acid, like fortified breakfast cereals, enriched grain products, leafy green vegetables, oranges and orange juice and peanuts.
* Begin pregnancy at a healthy weight.
* Stop smoking or drinking alcohol before you try to conceive, and continue to avoid these during pregnancy.
* Don’t use any drug, even over-the-counter medications or herbal preparations, unless recommended by a health care provider who knows you are pregnant.
I am not trying to scare anyone. Concerns for the late pregnancies are real but preventable. Good luck to all who are trying to conceive or are expecting!

Yes, its possible, but the thing is you have to face some more difficulties than when you're young. You need more self confidence.

It is definitely possible. My sister was married when she was 40. Soon after she found out that she was pregnant.

Today you see more and more woman waiting until they are older to start their families, so it is common to see woman over 40 pregnant.

It's definitely possible. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy a few days before turning 41. My oldest was born when I was 38. Jellyfish offered some valuable advice. At very least, make sure you are taking your prenatal vitamins. Folic acid intake is critical. Also, don't become discouraged if you miscarry. Keep trying! I miscarried a couple of times and then I carried a baby to term. Keep optimistic!

I think that contrary to popular belief, women of bygone days also had pregnancies after 40. It is just that the popular belief(what with so-called scientific research) is that women should give birth before 35. In truth, a child is God 's gift. Some women are in their 20s face all sorts of pregnancy problems(getting pregnant, Dwon Syndrome, etc). The truth about scientific research is that the statistical data compiled covers certain number of people(it is a case of probability and ratio;it is not really conclusive and inclusive).

It is definitely possible to get pregnant after 40; however, it is also considered a high risk pregnancy as well. A woman over 40 should consider her decision very carefully and consult a physician before, during and after pregnancy.

I had a friend and a cousin who got pregnant at the age of 44. It was harder and more risky but it went okay. My last pregnancy was also at the age of 44, but like the previous one, I had spontaneous abortion.
