I was wondering that when planning for a baby, and if your husband or partner is a smoker, does this have any affect on the child?

when you are planning or after you get pregnant? I am not sure smoking affects the planning too much. But once you are pregnant the second hand smoke and nicotine could go to the baby's bloodstream. -F |

When you're planning he can smoke all he wants, but I think it would be best if he quit or at least didn't smoke near you when you start actually trying to get pregnant. Honestly, even him having the lingering smell of smoke on his clothes and being near you exposes the baby second hand smoke. |

Exposure to second hand smoke affects not only the pregnant mother who inhales it but also the baby within her who gets oxygen supply from her bloodstream.

Second hand smoke affects everyone, including the baby in the womb. Thus, your husband should quit as soon as you get pregnant. Actually, if the husband doesn't want to quit, he can still smoke outdoors - as long as you are not exposed to the cigarette smoke, your baby will be fine.

I heard from my cousin that, smoking could affect man's inability to help a woman get pregnant. Do you think their is really in the cigarette that can cause in child bearing? |

Cigarette smoking (whether you smoke or a second hand smoker) is one of the causes of low birth weight among infants, as well small for gestational age. So yes, it affects the fetus. If your husband cannot keep himself from smoking, better ask him not get near you while he smokes. No couple wants a defective baby.

Yes husbands smoking does have an affect on the child! But your question to be seems a bit confusing, because are you asking that if his smoking while planning has an affect of his smoking while you are pregnant?

Second hand smokers are High risks. Just tell your husband not go near you when smoking or its better if he can quit smoking because it's not good for his health.

| Yes, according to Health Canada studies, it is reported that smoking causes impotence; thus impairing or greatly reducing man's ability to have normal sexual relationships.
