Default Best chances of getting pregnant

During the period cycle when are the best chances of getting pregnant, is it before or after the periods and how many days before or after?

From the 14th day of the last menstrual period for about 10 days is the conception period which is called as the dangerous period, and 5 days before periods is again the conception period.

Dear Kantha

where did you get this info from ?? Its wrong.

there is only a small window during the menstrual cycle in which conception can occur ;its the 14th ..15th..and may be the 16th day of the cycle. This frame is so because ovulation occurs for most women around the 14th day after of their cycle and once the egg has been released it cannot survive unfertilized for more than 72 hours inside the body. The sperm can survive upto 5 days within the females body so if intercourse has taken place on 10th-16th day of the cycle then there are chances that the female can conceive.

Good Info BB, I was about to write that.

I am surprised especially since Kantha seems to be a medical
professional (doctor?)

Also Anu, you can get a basal body temperature thermometer.
it tracks minute variations in body temperature that is used
to predict your ovulation time.

I am not sure how true this is but they say you should have intercourse
on alternate days starting 10, 12, 14 and 16th day. I think it is
to build up the sperm count.

Anu is already pregnant isn't she ? I thought she said so in some post...

A basal temp thermometer is a good idea ... but unless you have been trying for some time and haven't conceived i would not suggest this and many such aids to conceive ... once you have started trying give yourselves at least 6months to a year to get results that is the time frame an average healthy couple can take to conceive .

Kantha is a nursing tutor ... ? husband a doc ? but some of her comments are puzzling if this is so

This is good advice, Anu seems to be a bit apprehensive, which is not
her usual attitude from whatever I know in the last couple of months
in this forum. Just relax, have fun, and the kids will come. don't worry Anu.

so what you mean to say is from 14th day of the cycle to the 16th day of the cycle is the best time to try for a baby, as the chances are greater?

Who said it is wrong and how can you say it's wrong? you have to think before any further discussions, or you have to post a reasonable posts.Ofcourse, there is a small window for in the cycle for conception which is for those who have regular cycles but with those who don't what will you suggest, that's the reason why you have to consider the period for conception for atleast one week, and don't try to underestimate others simply, and don't try to criticise the profession, if i'm a nursing tutor and my my husband a Doctor, is there any think that we should not do mistakes? if others do any mistake try to correct them and don't try to criticise them, and ofcourse, there is no mistake in my post.
I didn't mention about ovulation subject wise, just in a simple way i mentioned about the considered period for conception so that everybody in the forum can understand, if you want i will mention all biological terms for you in a special way but no body will understand, you want in that way?
This is a forum of group discussion, sharing thoughts and understanding but not of criticising and commenting.

Hi Kantha

I am indeed talking about the average women who has 28 day cycles when i mentioned 14th 15th and 16th as probable dates .

But regardless of whether the cycle is longer or not your info isn't correct,

No matter how long the cycle is it is 14 days before the start of the next periods (cycle)in which ovulation takes place and once the egg has been released the time frame for conception is very narrow as both the egg and sperm can survive only for a given time .. as i have explained ... not 10 days it's more like 5 days .... from the ovulation date.
This would be the case as most women have a 14 day luteal (the days after ovulation till the next period) phase. In a case where that is not so none of these calculations work .. only a hormone based blood test can help and to some extent the basal thermometer helps too.

And it is completely wrong that from 14th day to 10 days conception can occur and then again that it can occur in the 5 days before periods

I haven't criticized your profession i think it is a very respectable profession indeed

"if you want i will mention all biological terms for you in a special way but no body will understand, you want in that way?"

"
and don't try to underestimate others simply, "

Aren't you underestimating others ?

Please do mention all the terms and stuff I am sure me as well as many others would be delighted to read it and undertsnd too

Before I had my son, I we we tried to conceive for about 2 years. My Obstetrician/Gynecologist advised us to have intercourse only starting around the 11th or the 14th day after the first day of my previous menstruation. That also depends on the presence of the mucous-like secretion that comes during fertile periods, because I do not have the regular 28-days cycle. Sometimes my cycle goes as long as 32 days. We were also advised not to have sex one week prior to the fertility period so that there is a build up of sperm during the fertile period intercourse. The week before and after the menstrual period is the safe period for those who do not want to get pregnant.

Are you referring here the natural family planning method, guys? Do you think

it's safe to use this if you have an abnormal cycle of your period?
