To make the best use of the cleaner we should first know how to use it. To start with first wash your face well with water. If you want you can clean it with a face wash that suits your skin. But make sure that the water is tepid enough because the use of hot and cold water will not do not open or close the pores. Hot water or cold water will in return dry your skin. Rub the cleanser properly on your face neck and eyelids. If you apply a lot of make up especially on your eyes then apply it on your eyelids carefully. After this wash your face again with tepid water, to rinse away the cleanser. Then pat dry your face.

I've done all of that. I have always followed the cleaner's direction, and it never seems to work for me. Even worse, my face gets really dry to the point where there's white ash-like marks on my face. Could that have something to do with my skin type?

I think way of washing your face using cleanser will depend on what you will be using. For those with oils, wet your face and pour a little amount on the palm then massage it gently to your face and make sure you have to rinse it well. Use cleanser with Jojoba oil as it is the best non clogging moisturizing oil.

You could try using a toner after cleansing. This will cool your face down and it makes sure that all the cleanser is rinsed off too.

I buy facial cleansers that are easy to use: pour some on a cotton pad and wipe your face clean. Same for makeup removers. Wash-dry-apply-wash again is too much work.
