Post Best exercise for thighs?

Thighs are often the most difficult areas to shift weight from as they're one of the main places that women tend to store fat, so it'll be difficult...

However, there are some very simple exercises that can help you tone up.

Walking always helps, as does climbing and descending stairs. I'm not sure how well I can explain the other exercises, but I'll try!

Lean with your back to a wall as if you were sitting on a chair, so your thighs are horizontal - you might have had to do similar in school either in gym or as a punishment! See how long you can remain in that position - it's a killer on the thighs, but burns calories and tones the muscles.

I'm not very good at explaining these things, so this is from a site called "Are You Slim?"

The exercises are called "Squat Thrusts" and among other things, help to tone your upper legs:

"1. Put your hands on the floor, shoulder width apart, with your legs stretched, just like in the normal push up position.
2. From this position, quickly bring both legs forward, underneath your torso, by bending your knees and thrusting forward quickly.
3. Then return your legs to the original position using the same quick, powerful movements."

A good, healthy diet will also help so reduce the amount of saturated fats, salt, etc. that you eat. Fish, white meat, pasta and wholegrain rice are very good if you want to lose some weight and tone up.

You are right - walking, stair climbing, and bicycling work great for legs and thighs. And if you want to work on your legs, thighs, and abs, lie on your back and start pedaling, as if riding an invisible bike, upside down.

My thighs are my big problem areas. Having four kids didn't help I'm sure however I keep thinking I can work it off. I've done the exercises you mentioned here and while they help its just not doing the trip. There's got to be something more, now if only I could find it! Thanks for the tips. I haven't done the one sitting next to a wall and goodness I need to try because I don't think I can manage that for long! These things are heavy lol.

Have you tried dieting? I noticed that my thighs shrunk when I went on a diet; I didn't even think about that, I wanted to thin up in the waist area, so that was a bonus.

Question A combination approach necessary

It is amazing how those extra pounds just like to stick to our thighs.

I checked this out once and apparently our bodies have a favourite little storage area. For some it is their breasts (wish that were my problem) others their waists, backside or thighs.

It is the last area that your body will release its fat supplies.

Eating a sensible diet and combining aerobic activity will help burn up the calories and if you burn up more than the intake of caleries you soon have to notice a difference.

Toning up the specific thigh muscles trims them down. Those exercises your working on sound hard so they are probably working well for you.

Truly, focusing on one aspect alone won't reap the results. We can all help each other to exercise more and eat less bad stuff.

It can be done girls.

I could probably write the book about stubborn fat on thighs and backside. The bad news is that you can't spot reduce! The only way to do this is to watch your diet and increase your exercise. You'll lose weight all over, including your problem area - and the chances are that the problem area will be the last to move! All these specific exercises are great because they tone the muscle underneath to give your thighs better shape and definition, but the fact is that while the muscles are hiding under a layer of fat you won't be able to see them.

In that case you are lucky you do not have thighs as a problem area.. believe me when your thighs are a problem they will not reduce with diet or exercise that seems to reduce your weight and tone other areas.

Though there are some exercises touted to be effective in reducing thighs as well as other problem spots they I am very sorry to say do not work .... that is if you have problem thigh or other problem areas. these exercises while toning your muscles in these areas and making you a much fitter person will not repeat "will not" reduce the area fat....

An over all weight loss will make thees areas seem much better but compared to the rest of your body will still seem bigger ,fatter .

It nevertheless helps to be fit and the solution to thsese problem areas will be smart dressing to hide and slim these areas

Just diet doesn't help because when you lose the fat, if you don't work out the skin will sag and will not look very attractive. It has to be combined with the exercise if you really want to have good results that last.
